Azure Migrate now supports Europe as project geography
I am a huge advocate of Azure Migrate and have written a few blogs on it in the past:
For those of you unfamiliar with with product, it is a product that can help you discover and assess your on-premises environment in preparation for a migration to Azure.
One point that people and customers I talk to about the product raise is that all project metadata was stored in the US Azure datacenters and for some people this was a sticking point for compliance reasons. the metadata that Azure Migrate collects is as follows:
- VM display name (on vCenter Server)
- VM’s inventory path (the host/folder on vCenter Server)
- IP address
- MAC address
- Operating system
- Number of cores, disks, NICs
- Memory size, Disk sizes
- Performance counters of the VM, disk and network.
We received some good news on that front on the 27th December 2018, the Product Team announced that you can now choose to store discovered metadata in the US OR Europe.
This is a great move! So now you have the choose between the US, Europe or Azure Government geographies when setting up Azure Migrate. More regions are supported but I have no information as to when at the moment.
